Susan’s Trek Adventure

A member of Westfund’s Support Team at Head Office recently joined her husband Ross is taking part in the 2017 Trek4Kidz Rally to benefit the Starlight Foundation.

In car 789, Susan and Ross Eckford formed just one of 25 teams to participate in this year’s event which raised $240,000 for the wonderful cause.

Westfund staff, primarily her workmates in the System and Support teams, and our organisation as a whole contributed to the Eckford’s efforts with an initial donation and a staff fundraising event at Head Office showing our support.

Trek4Kidz has been on the road for 21 years now with more than $1.8 million passed on to the Starlight Foundation.

Funds raised by the Trek enable the Starlight Children’s Foundation to support many thousands of sick kids in children’s hospitals across Australia.

All the people working behind the scenes in Trek4Kidz are volunteers and none of the funds raised are used for wages, meals or accommodation, so we are assured that all donations find their way to the cause!

While teams travel the countryside, they visit schools to help children and communities to understand the work that Starlight does to brighten the lives of seriously ill children and their families.

Regional communities are wonderful in rallying together in support of those is need, and the community spirit shown for the Trek4Kidz event is wonderful.

Trek4Kidz is also grateful for the amazing contribution of the Lions Clubs in all the towns it visits.

The trek started in Nowra, with stops in Canberra, Cobram, Mildura, Renmark and Hay before the finish line in Forbes.

Each car travels almost 3000 kilometres through NSW, the ACT and South Australia.

Susan and Ross are currently taking the time to reflect on their achievement and are looking forward to the 2018 Trek4Kidz.
