Supporting you with everyday health costs

We’re excited to announce Westfund’s Member Giveback for Good Health, a major initiative designed to support you with everyday health costs and improve access to care.

We’re reinvesting approximately $7 million* in 2026 through a suite of practical, value-driven measures that deliver real, tangible support to you, our members. This initiative will be available from 1 January 2026 to 31 December 2026.

Our Giveback for Good Health Package

No excess for same-day surgeries

We’re removing excess payments for same-day surgeries for eligible members, easing financial pressure and ensuring you can access the care you need, when you need it.

So, if you or anyone on your eligible policy needs to have a day surgery like cataract surgery, colonoscopy, endoscopy, tonsillectomy or skin lesion removal, you don't need to worry about paying your excess in 2026.

More back on everyday health services

Enjoy increased benefits on optical, dental, and preventative health. These changes will reduce — or even eliminate — out-of-pocket costs for the services you use most. It’s our way of saying thank you for being part of the Westfund community.

Learn more about some of our benefit enhancements below and stay tuned for a full breakdown of what's increasing on your Extras in 2026.

Fully covered 24/7 GP telehealth consults

Eligible members with extras cover will receive at least one free telehealth GP consult per policy (valued at up to $90). Couples will receive two, and families will receive four. Through our partnership with Doctors on Demand, members will be able to book a consult via the Westfund+ app from 1 January to 30 June 2026 — whether it’s for a sick child, a repeat prescription, or a routine check-up.

Giveback value lies in:

$7 million* reinvestment

Our reinvestment of up to $7 million* through this suite of practical, value-driven measures providing support to members with everyday health costs will be available from 1 January 2026 to 31 December 2026.

It doesn't stop there

See below, where we breakdown how we've added more value to your Extras benefits, from podiatry to mental health support.

What is the “Giveback for Good Health” package?

We're pleased to introduce our Giveback for Good Health package, an estimated $7 million* initiative designed to support our members with enhanced benefits in 2026.

This package is our way of showing thanks and includes:

  • No excess for day surgeries.

  • Increased benefits on everyday Extras services, like dental, optical and preventative health

  • Fully covered telehealth GP consults for members with Extras cover. For six months, singles will receive one fully funded consult, couples two and families four.

What does “no excess for day surgeries” mean?

From 2026, eligible members won’t need to pay an excess for day surgeries covered under their hospital policy. This helps reduce financial stress and makes accessing care easier. So, whether you have a $500 or $750 excess, we’ll waive the cost should you need to use a private hospital for a same-day surgery in 2026. Our Same Day Excess Waiver is available for members with Hospital cover who have served their waiting periods and are covered for their admission.

Which services have increased benefits?

As part of our Giveback for Good Health package, we're increasing benefits for a range of everyday health services. These changes are designed to help reduce or remove your out-of-pocket costs.

You'll see increased benefits for:

  • $1.2 million investment to uplift our dental benefits — making the most commonly used oral care benefits more affordable.

  • Increased optical benefits, with 100% back on tinting and coatings, with no sub-limits and the potential for no-gap optical claims.

  • An additional $25 sunglass optical allowance for every member with eligible Extras cover. That means members now have $75, $100 or $125 in benefits to use when shopping for sunglasses at Westfund (in addition to your regular optical benefits).

  • An expanded Health Management benefit that now includes Cancer Council UV-rated products, supporting members to protect their skin when out in the sun.

  • We are also broadening access to mental health services. We're adding registered counsellors and accredited mental health social workers to all our Extras products, giving you more choice and support for your mental wellbeing.
How do the fully covered telehealth GP consults work?

Members with extras cover will receive at least one fully covered telehealth GP consult per policy, valued at up to $90. Couples will receive two consults, and families will receive four. You can book your consult through the Westfund+ app with our partner, Doctors on Demand. These services are available to members 24 hours a day, seven days a week — including public holidays. Please note: this is only for a 6 month period.

Who is eligible for the fully covered telehealth GP consults?

All members with hospital or extras cover are eligible. The number of consults depends on your policy type:

  • Singles: 1 consult
  • Couples: 2 consults
  • Families: 4 consults
How do I book a telehealth GP consult?

Booking is easy! Simply log in to the Westfund+ app, click on Doctors on Demand, and follow the prompts to schedule your consult.

When you complete their booking form, Doctors on Demand will confirm your eligibility so you’ll know whether your consult is fully covered. If you have used your consults, you’ll still be able to access the Westfund member discounted rate.

When do these changes take effect?

The Giveback for Good Health package will be available from 1 January 2026.

I'm not planning on having surgery. How does this benefit me?

Private Health insurance offers peace of mind, ensuring you're protected just in case. While we hope you never need to use it, we know that the excess payment can be a financial barrier for members.

So while we hope you don’t need to use it too, you can have the peace of mind knowing eligible members won’t have to pay your excess for a same-day procedure.

Eligible members are those with Hospital Cover who have served their waiting periods and are going to the hospital for a same-day procedure that is covered by their hospital cover. Contact us if you have any questions on eligibility.

Who can I contact if I have more questions?
