Mobile Skin Clinic

How do I book a skin check at the Mobile Skin Check Clinic?

Booking a skin check is simple! If you're a Westfund member in one of our Care Centre locations, you'll receive an email with a link to book your appointment. The mobile clinic visits each Care Centre location twice a year, and you can find the schedule here.

If you're not a Westfund member or live outside of a Care Centre location, you can check the Australian Skin Cancer Foundation's website for other spots.

Appointments are preferred as spots fill quickly, but walk-ins are welcome if time is available. If you need to cancel or reschedule, simply update your booking through the link provided in your confirmation email.

Make sure to book early to secure your spot!

What is the Mobile Skin Clinic?

The Mobile Skin Clinic is a partnership between Westfund and the Australian Skin Cancer Foundation (ASCF) to bring life-saving skin checks to regional communities. Equipped with the world's first mobile 3D total body photography system, the clinic offers advanced melanoma detection technology, along with onsite care like GP consultations and biopsies if needed.

This free service is designed to make early detection of skin cancer easier, more accessible, and close to regional communities. The clinic visits Westfund Care Centre locations twice a year, giving members priority access while welcoming everyone to take advantage of this vital health service.

What happens during a skin check?

Your skin check will start with Vectra 3D Total Body Photography to capture the entire skin surface in ultra-high resolution and create a full-body 3D map of every mole.

When you enter the Vectra room, you will need to remove your clothing, step into the machine and stand with your arms and feet slightly apart. Once you’re in position, it’s just like having your photo taken- though with a very bright flash.

Following your scan, a doctor or nurse trained in skin cancer screening will examine your skin from head to toe using a dermatoscope, a special tool that helps detect early signs of skin cancer. They’ll note any spots or moles that look unusual and let you know if anything needs monitoring or treatment.

How long does a skin check take?

A standard skin check usually takes about 20 - 30 minutes, including the 3D Total Body Photography. The photography itself only takes a few seconds once you’re in position.

Is the skin check done in a private space?

Absolutely. Every skin check is done in a private consultation room on the truck to ensure your comfort and privacy.

What will I need to pay?

Skin checks with ASCF are free for Westfund members and non members. Consultations for biopsies or pathology will be bulk-billed through Medicare.

Is the truck wheelchair accessible?

Yes, the truck has a wheelchair lift. Please let the operator know when you arrive. The 3D Total Body Photography does require you to stand unaided for a few minutes, but if you’re unable to do that, you can still have a skin check with one of our practitioners.
