Why we created Westfund+

Westfund+ is a comprehensive preventative health program developed by Westfund to enhance the well-being of individuals in regional Australia. Designed by a team of healthcare professionals, including doctors, nurses, and allied health specialists, the program utilises behavioural science and data to create personalised preventative health routines for our members.

 

Participating in an annual health check could save your life. You’ll be encouraged to complete both an online health assessment and a provider-based health check annually—either through your regular GP or via our Pharmacy Network. This approach addresses two key findings from our Regional Gap Report: eliminating cost barriers for routine health checks, and expanding access through extensive pharmacy networks, given the difficulty many regional residents face in accessing basic GP services.

How are my health checks determined?

We use your age and gender from your membership to recommend the most important checks for you.

Are my Health Risk Assessment results visible to anyone?

Our Health Risk Assessment collects personal information to provide you with insights about your health. The results are used to guide decisions about the services and programs we offer, ensuring they meet your specific needs and help you get more value from your cover. 

If you choose to take part in an annual health check via the Westfund pharmacy network, the pharmacist will also have access to your health information so they can provide recommendations and advice. 

How does Westfund protect my data?

Your data security is our top priority. That's why we require multi-factor authentication when you sign in to the app, adding an extra layer of protection to keep your information safe.

Will my health information affect my premium?

No, your health data cannot be used to change your premium. Australia’s private health insurance uses a community rated system. This means that everyone pays the same premium for the same health insurance product, regardless of their health status, age or claims history. So why do we collect the data in the first place? We can use the information the app collects to recommend the programs, partners and providers that could help you save money or get more in support of your health through your cover with us. Do I need to be a Westfund member to use Westfund+?

Yes, you'll need to be a Westfund member and registered for online services to access the Westfund+ app.

How do I reset my password?

If you’ve forgotten your password, or just want to update it, click ‘Forgot Password?’ in the app and follow the instructions.

If I reset my password will that affect Members Online and the Westfund app?

Yes, your login credentials are shared across all Westfund online services. This means that if you update your password, it will automatically apply to both Members Online and the Westfund app.

How do I book with the pharmacy?

Our pharmacy network offers annual health checks at only $45. To book an appointment, head to 'Book' on Westfund+ and follow the instructions. 

Depending on your level of Extras cover, you may be able to claim a benefit under Preventative Health Checks (waiting periods and limits apply). Meaning, if you've claimed part of this benefit on another health check e.g. skin check, you can claim what you have remaining. Please refer to your Policy Summary to check your benefits or view your Extras limits on Members Online or the Westfund app.

What’s included in a pharmacy health check?

At your annual health check, the pharmacist will measure and assess the following: 

  • Blood pressure  
  • Cholesterol levels  
  • Blood glucose  
  • Weight and height  
  • Waist circumference  

You will receive a personalised report covering the above and any associated risks you should be mindful of. 

What if there are no network pharmacies in my area?

If there are no pharmacies in our network nearby, you can still book a health check with any pharmacy that offers the service and claim*. Just keep in mind that prices may vary, so it's a good idea to check the cost beforehand.

Can I use a pharmacy check-up instead of seeing my GP?

Nothing replaces the value of a regular relationship with your GP. However, we know that for many of our members, accessing a GP can be challenging—some told us it can take up to six weeks to get an appointment in their area, if a GP is available at all. On top of that, out-of-pocket costs can make routine check-ups feel out of reach.

 

That’s why we’ve introduced pharmacy check-ups as an additional option where access may be an issue. They’re a convenient way to stay on top of your health—especially when it comes to identifying risks early. Best of all, at pharmacies in our network, they’re available at no extra cost for members with Extras cover.*
